December is here and as 2025 draws to an end, I wanted this mini-craft tutorial to be something super simple with easy to access materials.
Over the course of the last five years of creating craft tutorials for PowerWood’s creative corner, I’ve often shared projects that use repeat, favourite or go-to materials in lots of different ways. It means that it’s easier to make the most of supplies you might already have, is cost effective, and sometimes, easier to get started on a project if the extra effort of sourcing materials has already been taken care of!
It felt like a bit of a no-brainer to choose a recycled card-board craft, since it is a material in abundant supply at this time of year! It is a seasonal version of this craft on the PowerWood blog, shared a few years ago. I still had some embroidery hoops to hand, and of course, plenty of cardboard!
You could make smaller or larger versions for yourself, and feel free to make as many stars as you like, and in any sizes you like. It could easily be a shared family project with many hands making light work of the cutting of stars. And, whilst I’ve chosen to make my wreath in gold, you could also experiment or choose your own colour scheme – other metallic paints, bright colours, a colour scheme of two or more colours… and you could even use spray paint for covering all your components quickly.
I have used some glitter on my stars – I stopped using glitter many years ago, but found some that was inexpensive and biodegradable from the Range. Even though I used it quite sparingly, the sparkle definitely adds to the finished craft!
Even if you only manage one or two festive craft projects each season, over the years—when they’re carefully stored away in the New Year, those handmade pieces soon become treasured family decorations and part of your ‘heirloom’ traditions.
Wishing you an inspiring, fun and uplifting festive season, hopefully with some cosy, calm and connected creative moments.
Happy Crafting!
P.S. As it’s also the time of year for gifting, this blog has plenty of ideas for craft supplies and materials to consider gifting for creative kids or arty family members. Previous year’s blogs can be found here, here, and here.
